Current Gas Supply to Secunda and Sasolburg

Natural gas is sourced by Sasol from the Pande/Temane gas fields onshore in Mozambique, just above Vilanculos towards the south of the country. The gas is transported to Secunda via the ROMPCO pipeline. From there, Sasol-owned pipeline infrastructure transports gas to Sasolburg. In addition to the 110 PJ used in Secunda and Sasolburg, Sasol has contracts to supply a further 40 PJ of gas sourced from Mozambique via pipeline to a number of customers in Gauteng (Business Engagement).

Output from the Pande/Temane fields is projected to start declining towards the end of the 2020s, with options being explored to extend the lives of these fields. The volumes of additional gas which could be realised through these extensions, and even whether they are possible, is uncertain. However, if natural use gas by Secunda and Sasolburg is to continue and even increase, it will need to source additional gas from other sources, economically.
