Transitioning SA's Petrochemical Value Chain

Natural gas is used at both of Sasol’s production facilities (Business Engagement):

• The Secunda facility uses gas as a process feedstock to supplement coal. A 220 MW natural gas turbine power plant is also operated to provide on-site electricity. Total gas usage at Secunda is around 60 PJ per annum.
• At the Sasolburg operations, natural gas is used as the feedstock for production of syngas as part of the operation’s gas-to-liquids process as well as for electricity generation in a 175 MW gas engine plant. Sasolburg’s consumption of natural gas is around 50 PJ per annum.

Secunda also produces methane-rich gas as a by-product. This gas is used on-site and sold to external customers, with users in KwaZulu-Natal being supplied along the Lilly pipeline.
