Transitioning SA's Petrochemical Value Chain

International concessional finance is available for decarbonisation in a number of different forms. The government-negotiated platform of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), where South Africa was a first mover in securing concessional international climate finance for its just energy transition, continues to be elaborated to channel public and private finance into South Africa’s power sector, green hydrogen opportunities, and EV transition.

Outside this partnership bilateral projects and programmes continue, with the green hydrogen sector being particularly vibrant as Europe looks to secure supplies of green hydrogen derivatives. The social justice aspects of these and other projects also have access to concessional or grant funding.
